I gave up with VIA and 2.4 kernels for USB.  There are things happening
on both fronts now but I don't know how big an improvement we're going to
see until we see it.

For USB 2.0 I think your best chance of success will be with a 2.6 kernel,
but remember that it's still early days for 2.6 so YMMV.
