But you might not know which bit is the crappy bit - I think it's that
VIA stuff.  Have you tried usb-uhci instad of uhci?  I don't suppose
it will help much but it's worth a shot.  Probably worth trying 2.4.25
and maybe one or two others, late 2.4.2x and early 2.6.x, as a lot has
been happening in the Linux USB world and things, er, ebb and flow.
