Found a good reason to not run linux, installing a usb joystick has turned into a two day ordeal and it still ain't working! Took less than 5 minutes on Windows.

I just got finished on a secondary system installing kernel 2.4.22 following EXACTLY what the user guide said. USB, uhci module, hid module, input module and joystick module. Build kernel, confgure lilo , boot kernel and boot the new kernel.

then I modprobe usbcore; modprobe uhci and there they are
I mount the usbdevfs and check devices and there are my buses.
Plug in my joystick and it appears in devices.
modprobe input; modprobe hid; modprobe joydev

But, cat /dev/input/js0 says "No such device".
