Howdy. This has been going on for a while now but has been bothering me enough lately I thought I should see if I could find a solution.
Previously, my Toshiba PDR-M70 digital camera worked flawlessly with the 2.4 kernel series. It appeared like a standard FAT volume and I could copy stuff to and from it by mounting it under /dev/sda*. Since I moved to the 2.6 kernel branch having the camera connected and trying to handshake via USB actually causes the entire USB sub system to hang - so badly that I cannot perform a normal system shutdown. Essentially what happens is that the kernel waits for the USB driver to let go which it never does and I cannot kill the process, use mod-probe to clear it out, unplugging the camera does not fix it, etc. I have to actually perform a hardware reset!
