Dear list,
This weekend i purchased a nice alu HDD housing with USB 2.0 interface.
After a few attempts i stumbled upon problems:
-connecting and mounting was no problem.
-some small read and write tests didn't seem te be a problem.
- a cp of a big directory to the external drive seemed to work at first, but
after copying something between 200 and 600 mb (everytime different) there
occured an error. Suddenly the filesystem is became readonly.
I opened the housing and found the chipname to be GL811E. Googling brought
me to the list. There was a recent thread on the subject.
My question is now: should i wait for a patch, or return the drive to the
store and buy me some other brand?
I'm running SuSE 9.0 with stock kernel (incl patches via yast) :
2.4.21-202-default
I also tried it on an gentoo system with a 2.6.3 and a 2.6.5 kernel, both
had the same problem.
Do you know about a distro/kernel combination wich doesn't have this
problem?
Thanks for any hints!
Pieter
