I am struggling with trying to have a Coolscan V working with USB 2.0 under Linux 2.4.23, and it doesn't seem to work.

With ehci-hcd, either as module or as in-kernel, when trying to scan from Vuescan 8.0, I get in /var/log/messages:

May 18 23:48:09 pit kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usbscanner
May 18 23:48:09 pit kernel: scanner.c: probe_scanner: User specified USB read timeout - 1200
May 18 23:48:09 pit kernel: scanner.c: USB scanner device (0x04b0/0x4001) now attached to scanner0
May 18 23:48:09 pit kernel: scanner.c: 0.4.15:USB Scanner Driver
May 18 23:48:09 pit kernel: scanner.c: probe_scanner: User specified USB scanner -- Vendor:Product - 4b0:4001
May 18 23:49:17 pit kernel: scanner.c: read_scanner(0): funky result:-75. Consult Documentation/usb/scanner.txt.
May 18 23:49:17 pit last message repeated 3 times

The scanner is blocked, blinking, and so is Vuescan. When I shut down the scanner:

May 18 23:49:33 pit kernel: scanner.c: write_scanner(0): funky result: -71. Consult Documentataion/usb/scanner.txt.

I have tried with shorter timeout (60), then I get the same, plus

May 19 00:09:52 pit kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout.

The error does not appear when I am using the UHCI driver compiled as part of core - not as module where I still have problems.

From post on comp.periphs.scanners, it seem that Vuescan is compatible - in some cases - with ehci. So where could the problem come from? From the ehci / usbscanner / Coolscan V combination? Any common or reasonable reason?

Thanks for your help.
Yannick
