Actually /dev/input/mice works! However, at one point, X crashed and when I startx'ed the mouse stopped working. So I restarted my computer (because I'm not clear on how to restart usb services) with the mouse unplugged and plugged the mouse in once I logged in. It didn't register on the first attempt so I reinserted the mouse and USB services registered the mouse with the driver.

So, problem solved. My mouse works now.

Thanks for your help.

Did you try /dev/input/mice?

I'm having trouble with a PS/2 to USB adaptor (works great in Windows!)
that works "sometimes" in Linux. Xfree86 is configured with an extra
/dev/usbmouse "InputDevice" section and "ServerLayout" entry for the
device. dmesg detects the device perfectly:

usb.c: registered new driver usbkbd
input0: Composite USB PS2 Converter USB to PS2 Adaptor v1.09 on usb1:2.0
...
usb.c: registered new driver hid
input: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Composite USB PS2 Converter USB to PS2
Adaptor v1.09] on usb1:2.1
hid-core.c: v1.8.1 Andreas Gal, Vojtech Pavlik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
hid-core.c: USB HID support drivers

and /proc/bus/usb/devices:
S: Manufacturer=Composite USB PS2 Converter
S: Product=USB to PS2 Adaptor v1.09

However, after restarting X and the USB modules there is still no
response from the mouse. I did a cat on /dev/usbmouse as well as
/dev/input/mouse0 and got nothing after moving the mouse. There has
been one or two times where I have received garbage characters after
moving the mouse, but I have not located the problem or a way to
duplicate this consistently.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Chase
