Hi, hope you guys don't mind me jumping straight in and aksing a question. I believe I am the leader in the evolution of USB device usage, I recently purchsed a USB 2.0 CDROM case, and placed in it a working DVD-DOM drive. I say i'm the leader only to make light of my lack of discovery of previous trouble/success reports on this particular usb combination.
My final goal is to purchase a DVDRW to put in the case, but I though it would be prudent to test it with a DVDROM first.. See the case details here: http://www.snt.com.tw/product.php?mode=show&cid=22&pid=63 Using USB, the DVD-ROM reads CD's and single layer DVD's fine. But it worn't read dual-layer (DVD-9??) disks. Well, it will, just not very well.. dmesg shows lines like this (alot) after trying to read: I/O error: dev 0b:00, sector 9372632 I/O error: dev 0b:00, sector 9372640 I/O error: dev 0b:00, sector 9372640 I/O error: dev 0b:00, sector 9372648 I/O error: dev 0b:00, sector 9372648 I/O error: dev 0b:00, sector 9372656 I/O error: dev 0b:00, sector 9372656 What could be wrong? The DVD laser works, as when I plug this into a windows (i know, i know, but it works..) PC, i can play the DVD.. What can I do to troublshoot this? I'm at a loss.. My kernel is 2.4.22.
