I want to do a little bit tricky thing.
What I want to do is to make the usb-storage driver release only a certain usb-mass-storage (umass) device while other umass devices not affected.
Let me explain my situation.
I have a USB-HDD on which I installed Windows2000 through VMWare on Linux(Debian sid).
The USB-HDD is recognized as a usb mass storage device and assigned to /dev/sda when I connect it to my PC.
The Win2K is installed to /dev/sda1 using VMWare's raw-disk mode.
I have another umass device, a USB-SD-Card-reader.
This device is also recognized as a usb-mass-storage device and can be accessed via /dev/sdb (because /dev/sda is used by the HDD).
This SD card reader is capable of handling copy-right protected files, such as Secure-MP3. However I can't use this capability on Linux as far as I know. (BTW, does anyone know a way to convert normal-MP3 files into the Secure-MP3 format and check them out to SD card on Linux ?)
This is why I need the Win2K to convert my MP3 files into Secure-MP3 and copy them into a SD card so that I can listen to them with my cellphone.
Now there is a problem. After I boot the Win2K through VMWare on Linux, I connect the SD card reader hoping that the Win2K recognizes it.
However (and of couse), the Linux kernel recognizes it first and the usb-storage driver grabs the device preventing the VMWare to use it.
So my question is, "Is it possible to force the usb-storage driver to release the SD card reader while keep using the USB-HDD ?"
If it's impossible, I will give up this way and install Win2K on my IDE HDD, though it's less portable.
