Hi, sorry for the late repsonse, but I decided to go out @ the weekend rather than hacking ;-)
Alan suggested to disable the hotplugging stuff and wait some seconds before loading the usb-storage driver, to give the device some time for setup. I did this and it works! I have attached the logs. It should be enough to wait about 5s before loading the usb-storage modules or before trying to get some information from the device. Hope this help sto fix the problem. Gerhard [SNIPSNAP]
