Hi, I am trying to install a USBCAM on a SuSE 9.1 system. After reqding FAQs and long "googleing" I start this threat.
My System is a ASUS A6V700 mainboard with Athlon 2.8 GHz, 512MB RAM. uname -> "2.6.4-52-default #1 Wed Apr 7 02:08:30 UTC 2004 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux" Webcam: Philips ToUcam II (PCVC 820K) The original ov511-kernel driver 1.64 does not support this webcam (OV518 statt OV511-Chip). After Update 1.64 -> 2.28 the USBVIEW command shows details of the cam including the successful connection to ov511 driver. But - but: xawt --hwscan answers just /dev/video no device /var/log/message: Jul 25 15:32:57 escher kernel: usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using address 4 Jul 25 15:32:57 escher kernel: usb 3-1: Product: USB Camera Jul 25 15:32:57 escher kernel: usb 3-1: Manufacturer: OmniVision Technologies, Inc. I did not made any update (exept ov511). An update to newer kernel ist definitly no solution (I tried it already). Any ideas / tips?
