Yes it is.  The current version is 2.6.8.  I think this problem was fixed 
back around the 2.6.6 timeframe.

All you have to do is start with the same .config file as SuSE uses in the
top-level kernel source directory.  When upgrading to a new version, do
"make oldconfig" before anything else.

There's no question that this is part of your problem.  As for whether 
it's the entire problem...  try the upgrade and see!
