Without a useable (i.e., non-USB) keyboard, there's no easy way for you to learn anything more about what's going wrong. And what you've provided isn't enough for a diagnosis. If you can hook up a regular keyboard to the computer, try doing Alt-SysRq-T after it hangs. The stack dump for the modprobe process might indicate where the trouble lies. It's probably a hardware problem of some sort.
