I installed a CenDyne USB2.0 4+1port PCI card but I get random system
freezes, especially if I use the USB devices much. As I don't really need
USB1.x I tried leaving OHCI and UHCI out of my kernel, just including EHCI
in it. Also, I tried upgrading from kernel 2.4.27 to 2.6.8, but I still
get the freezes.
I figured that using a card with an NEC chipset would be a fairly safe
bet. When the kernel starts up it says,
ehci_hcd 0000:00:0a.2: NEC Corporation USB 2.0
ehci_hcd 0000:00:0a.2: irq 5, pci mem e0829000
ehci_hcd 0000:00:0a.2: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
ehci_hcd 0000:00:0a.2: USB 2.0 enabled, EHCI 0.95, driver 2004-May-10
and I can use USB devices to some degree, just with some system freezes.
lspci reports the EHCI part as,
0000:00:0a.2 USB Controller: NEC Corporation USB 2.0 (rev 02) (prog-if 20 [EHCI])

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the problem? Does anyone
have one of these cards working fine with Linux? Is it likely to be a
driver issue instead of faulty hardware? Ideas are welcomed.
Thanks,
Mark
