There's nothing really wrong with that. Lots of USB storage devices have two different vendors: one to make the disk or flash memory and the other to make the USB interface. Naturally you see one vendor name when looking in /proc/bus/usb/devices and the other name when looking in /proc/scsi/scsi. As for solving your problem, we need more information. Try turning on the usb-storage verbose debugging switch in the kernel configuration, then post the dmesg output showing what happens when you plug the stick into the non-working system.
