Hello list, I seem to be experiencing problems getting the PL2303 usb to serial adapter functioning correctly on my debian box.
The adapter seems to only be able to transfer data in one direction. For instance : minicom ttyS0 <---------Null Modem Cable---------> minicom ttyUSB0 When typing into the "minicom ttyS00" session window you see the output in the "minicom ttyUSB0" session window, as expected. However..... When typing into the "minicom ttyUSB0" session window you don't see any output in the "minicom ttyS0" session window. This would suggest that the data can only be read from the ttyUSB0 port.... or have I got that the wrong way round?!? - lol If I connect the same null modem cable between ttyS0 and ttyS1 and use the same minicom port settings (19200 8N1) then the comms is perfect. The adapter itself has been proven to function flawlessly under win2k. Anyway, I have tried a few different kernel versions in order to try and resolve the issue, but the problem remains the same with them all. 2.2.20 (USB not supported) 2.4.18 (problem, as described above, apparent) 2.4.27 (problem, as described above, apparent) 2.6.7 (problem, as described above, apparent) 2.6.8 (problem, as described above, apparent) Looking into it in a bit more detail it would appear that 2.4.18 uses the pl2303 V0.9 driver, and the later 3 kernel versions use the V0.10 driver. I even went as far as to chmod 777 all the ttyS* and ttyUSB* ports. Does anyone know of a reason why this is happening ? Can anyone recommend a distro that is proven with regards to the use of this adapter? Can anyone help me at all?
