Hello,
when reading large amounts of data from my usb 2.0-harddisk, I'll get "Data phase"-errors. (About 3-7 errors when reading 220 GB). Note that I'll only get these errors if I read the harddisk. If I copy from one harddisk to another, I'll only get these errors at the source, not the destination-harddisk.
/var/log/messages-entry of one of these errors:
Oct 17 04:28:09 titanic kernel: SCSI error : <18 0 0 0> return code = 0x8000002
Oct 17 04:28:09 titanic kernel: Current sdb: sense key Hardware Error
Oct 17 04:28:09 titanic kernel: Additional sense: Data phase error
Oct 17 04:28:09 titanic kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 164380855
(Don't be surprised about hostname "titanic"... Goes back to the time having two IBM DTLA-harddisks connected ;) )

Due to the fact that read of the file where the error occurs fails, I would be very encouraged finding a solution...
Thanks,
Andre.
