cat /proc/bus/usb/devices
It is probably your phone. That message in generated when the device is connected. After it is connected hotplug will try to figure out if there is a driver for it and then load it.

I'm running a 2.4 kernel. The device in question is a cradle for a mobile phone (SonyEricsson p910i) and the phone itself.
I'm able to talk to the phone from my computer (and NFS mount the
phone's file system :-)), so whatever it is that is "not claimed by
active driver" it doesn't seem to be anything essential. So what I really want to know is (and I'd have loved to find this in the FAQ):
What does that message mean? How do I find out what a "vend/prod 0x403/0xfc82" is? And how do I find out whether it is supported in a newer kernel?
