Could you post the contents of /proc/bus/usb/devices with the camera
plugged in?
This may help. Before plugging in the camera (maybe at boot time), do
(as root):
modprobe scsi_mod
echo 'NIKON:DSC E2000:0x80400' >/proc/scsi/device_info
If that solves your problem, please let me know. If it doesn't, go into
your kernel configuration and turn on the usb-storage verbose debugging
option. Then post the dmesg log showing what happens with the rebuilt
kernel when you plug in the camera.
