I am thinking of using USB optical mice as displacement sensors in a mobile robot I am working on. Should I expect any problems? Will I just end up with multiple /dev/input/mouse entries? What device naming consistency? If I take two mice and swap the ports they are connected to (staying on the same hub) will they exchange device nodes/names?
