Unfortunately, using 2.6.10-rc3 with your EHCI race patch did not result in any 
visible change in
behavior. (I know you said 2.6.10-rc2, but I assume 2.6.10-rc3 would also be 
ok; the patch applied
cleanly.) The lockup still occurs as described. Please let me know if there is 
any other
information I can provide to help further analyze this problem - since my 
machine locks up just as
soon as the graphics card switches to graphics mode, the lockup occurs exactly 
as the console
display becomes hidden. Very frustrating.
