Yeah, it should do the trick if the problem is indeed VIA.

I think someone said that this could be caused by USB devices requiring too much power. Do you have many USB devices attached? Try unplugging them and trying just a camera on different ports.
Have you tried 2.4.x kernels? Just in case...
