Why do you think that the safe-serial driver would work for this device? I thought that driver was only for connecting to some embedded devices.
Uhh, because other people had reported that it works?
In short, the 49G+ implements Kermit over USB. The earlier 48G series and 49G all used a serial cable to interface with a host computer. The 49G+ series uses the same basic interface, just with USB instead of serial. Thus the safe-serial driver is a natural choice.
Supposedly, I should just issue
modprobe usbserial modprobe safe_serial vendor=0x03f0 product=0x0121
and plug the calculator in, at which time the serial interface would be available as /dev/ttyUSB0.
Turning the calculator on registers it with the USB hotplug system, but I can't get any USB drivers to claim it. Thus nothing is available under /dev/ttyUSB*.
So I turned to the collective wisdom of linux-usb-users to seek help.
