Hi,

I have bought a card reader, but cannot get it to work at the moment, it is
a "07c4:a10b Datafab Systems, Inc.".

While connecting with a 2.6.10 selfcompiled kernel it says:
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using
uhci_hcdand address 3
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: usb 1-1: ep0 maxpacket = 8
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: usb 1-1: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2,
SerialNumber=3
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: usb 1-1: default language 0x0409
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: usb 1-1: Product: USB CF+MS
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: usb 1-1: Manufacturer: DataFab Systems Inc.
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: usb 1-1: SerialNumber: B4684DF968
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: usb 1-1: hotplug
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: usb 1-1: adding 1-1:1.0 (config #1, interface
0)
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: usb 1-1:1.0: hotplug
Mar 1 17:35:53 linux kernel: hub 1-0:1.0: state 5 ports 2 chg fffc evt 0002

when connecting with a SuSE 2.6.8.1 kernel it says:
Mar 1 14:47:08 linux kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using
address 4
Mar 1 14:47:08 linux kernel: usb 1-1: Product: USB CF+MS
Mar 1 14:47:08 linux kernel: usb 1-1: Manufacturer: DataFab Systems Inc.
Mar 1 14:47:08 linux kernel: usb 1-1: SerialNumber: B4684DF968
Mar 1 14:47:10 linux kernel: Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc
in the drive.

the output of /proc/bus/usb/devices is:
T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 5 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=07c4 ProdID=a10b Rev=80.00
S: Manufacturer=DataFab Systems Inc.
S: Product=USB CF+MS
S: SerialNumber=B4684DF968
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=100mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=(none)
E: Ad=01(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=82(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms

Could somebody please give me hint how to solve this problem. I played a
little bit with unusual_devs.h, but that did not make it any better.

To me it seems like USB is not even noticing to treat this device as a
mass-storage device. Maybe because of "Cls=ff(vend.)" ?

greetings
Felix Mller
