There's probably nothing special about fdisk; anything that opens the
device file ought to be enough to cause the media to be detected.

There's no connection as far as I know.  You could try asking the ub
maintainer.  Your plugin.log showed that both LUNs were detected properly
and both of them replied with Medium Not Present errors.  This doesn't 
appear to be a software problem; your hardware really is saying that 
there's no card inserted when in fact there is.
