OK, here it is: (I stripped everything not belonging to usb2.0) cat /proc/bus/usb/devices T: Bus=05 Lev=00 Prnt=00 Port=00 Cnt=00 Dev#= 1 Spd=480 MxCh= 4 B: Alloc= 0/800 us ( 0%), #Int= 0, #Iso= 0 D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=01 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=0000 ProdID=0000 Rev= 2.06 S: Manufacturer=Linux 2.6.12-rc1 ehci_hcd S: Product=EHCI Host Controller S: SerialNumber=0000:00:0c.2 C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=e0 MxPwr= 0mA I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=hub E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) From the user-point-of-view it looks like it is not working at all :-(. Maybe I can try to copy data to the harddrive and verify it later to check integrity. But it seems that this takes ages. > You said the drive works okay under Windows. Can you be certain that it's > not getting the same sorts of errors? Maybe Windows just doesn't report > the errors to you. Yes, the drive works at reasonable speed under Windows. No , I'm not sure whether there are any errors (at least there are none reported in the system-log) But I also checked the same USB2.0 harddrive on another linux-machine, which is running a 2.6.8-24.11-default SuSE kernel. I did some test (copying gigabytes of data, badblocks) and did not find any problems. The speed is comparable with that achieved under Windows. This looks like some problem with my computer/usb-controller hardware!?
