I meant to say NEC, not Sony.  Lord knows how those two names got mixed 
up in my head...

I don't really know how many interrupts one controller should generate 
compared to another.  It's a good question, though.  On the face of it I 
would expect to see about the same number.  But without more knowledge, 
you shouldn't assume that it's related to problems in the controller.
