I'll give that a try.  I had read about noacpi (sp?) in other locations, but I'm not sure of the impact of doing that.  What would I lose, if anything, by turning it off?  If it's related to controlling the power of devices, would that extend to systems using a battery-backup system?
 
Will give it a try and post results, including my MB model, etc., in case it helps others.
