hi
ok, here's what i did.

i grabbed the floppy disk and inserted it into a ide floppy drive on my
desktop pc running debian etch also. i did a complete format. i then
copied a file to it. i then unmounted the floppy on the desktop pc,
removed it, reinserted it into the desktop pc and mounted it again just
to make sure the disk was ok and file was still there. it was and all
good at this point.

i then unmounted and removed the floppy from the desktop machine and
inserted it into the usb floppy on the laptop (also running debian
etch). attempting to mount it again i got the same errors:

end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 37
Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 37
SCSI error : <0 0 0 0> return code = 0x8000002
sda: Current: sense key=0x3
    ASC=0x11 ASCQ=0x0
Info fld=0x26
end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 38
Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 38
SCSI error : <0 0 0 0> return code = 0x8000002
sda: Current: sense key=0x3
    ASC=0x11 ASCQ=0x0
Info fld=0x27

...and so forth for multiple sectors.

i then removed the disk from the usb floppy and reinserted it into the
desktop's ide floppy again, mounted it, and it was ok.

the disk must be fine, and i have tried many different disks.

i'm stumped!!!

any suggestions appreciated. thanks.
