I have a VScom USB-8COM (8 port USB to RS-232). This usb to serial box uses a FTDI chipset. I am running Fedora Core 4 (2.6.12-1.1447_FC4).

With the 8COM connected I can only boot into single user mode. Runlevel 3 stops booting just after the message Starting: Hal [OK]. The ports appear to work fine even though the system hasn't "finished" booting. I can still ssh into the box and such.

With the 8COM disconnected system boots normally. After booting, if I connect the 8COM the serial ports appear in /dev/ttyUSB* and again appear to work fine.

Any ideas on how I can get the system to boot with the 8COM connected?

Thanks,

Tim
