I don't see how you could get those particular error messages with ver 2.1.6 of libgphoto2. Maybe an older version of the library is still hanging around and is being used instead. Take a look in /lib and /usr/lib, plus all the directories mentioned in /etc/ld.so.conf and the directory where the gphoto2 program is stored. Also, while gphoto2 is running, in another window find its process number and do "lsof -p gphoto2-process-number"; that will show you which library file is being used. And can you post the complete log file from your gphoto2 run?
