It was on 8 September that I enquired of the gphoto2 list how I could obtain a record of the debugging output when using that application, Having received no answer to that enquiry, I then wrote to this list for the first time.
It was on 23 September that, as well as receiving from Stephen Gowdy and Alan Stern copies of their most recent posts to this list regarding my gphoto2 problem, I also unexpectedly received a copy of a post to the gphoto2 list from someone telling me how I could obtain a record of the debugging output when using gphoto2 and suggesting that I post that output to that list. Coincidentally, the poster had written the driver for the very camera that I was trying to use. I did as he suggested and then received a further message from him. In it, he said that the debugging output did not disclose the source of my problem. He then offered what he described as few guesses and finally wrote: "Hmmm ... Could the problem be that you already did install from source and had an old installation of a distro package? Come to think of it, that _could_ cause a problem like what you are having". He ended his message by suggesting "a new install, after making sure that the old one is completely banished from the system." The answer to his question was that I did install v 2.1.6 of gphoto2 from source, having had an old installation of a distro package of v 2.1.5. Further, in spite of every usual test (including the debugging output) showing that I had v 2.1.6 only installed and of my attempting to remove v 2.1.5 at the outset by using yum, I did have on my system, as Stephen Gowdy most recently pointed out to me, at least the file "libgphoto2.so.2.0.3", which is a file listed at rpm.pbone.net as one from v 2.1.5, but not from 2.1.6. I now propose to get a list of every file in the FC3 RPM of gphoto2 v 2.1.5, delete individually every file whose name is on that list, delete as best I can every file from my compiled v 2.1.6 of gphoto2 and then start again. My thanks again to Alan Stern and Stephen Gowdy for trying to help me. I apologise if I've taken up your time unnecessarily. Leslie ____________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
