I, too, would like to know a solution to this.  In the mean time, here is
some information on a device I have.

I have a USB magstripe cardreader with dual personalities.  It can act like
a "wedge" device, where the input comes in as if it were a keyboard, OR it
can act as a Human Interface Device.  The functionality is toggled via a
Command Message.

Perhaps your device has a similar option.  See if the manufacturer has
documentation, or perhaps contact the manufacturer directly for support.
