It's not a boot parameter; it can be set only by building a new kernel.

Building and installing a kernel isn't hard, but it is a bit time
consuming.  There should be instructions somewhere in your distribution
about how to do it.

Maybe.  It's worth a try.  After all, if it has already been fixed then 
there's no point worrying about it.  And if it still isn't working in the 
latest kernel then we need to know so we can fix it.
