That "patch unexpectedly ends in middle of line" message is common for patches extracted from email messages and it shouldn't matter. The FAILED message is more serious, but I can't tell what happened on your system. You know, for a simple patch like this one you don't have to use the "patch" program. You can edit the appropriate source file and make the changes by hand. Just remember to remove the extra character in the first column of every line in the patch.
