Is the mouse ball clean, what of the rollers inside?

Old machine if it has no USB.  Even the PII I write this on has USB 1.1.

If the cards are used or old it is possible there is a short.]
If the computers work without the cards without a clean install, not
update, then you may have a point.  Check the cards for corosion and the
slots into which you were to plug them in.  How long since you opened
the box and blew it out with an air can?
