Hi,
It is RHEL4 (4 update 2, or 4.2 in the case of the machine where it doesn't
work), not fedora. My kernel version is 2.6.9-22.EL and the one where usb
works fine (RHEL 4.0) is 2.6.9-5.EL.

4.0? What kernel version are you using here?
Don't you mean RHEL 4? Or is it Fedora Core 4?
