I know that the Sandisk works if I put off the Lexar and then plug in 
the Sandisk on the EPIA.  I know it doesn't work if I boot off the 
Sandisk on the EPIA.  The 'first drive to be used' was me just 
speculating on how this was possible.

Hah, yesterday I came to the same conclusion as you have and ordered 
another Lexar drive!  Stupid thing cost about $20, wish I did that 
before spending hours and hours mucking with it! :(
