Hi, I have a cheap USB hard disk enclosure with a rather sad IDE disk in it. It all seems to work fine, once I get Linux to recognize the disk. The problem is that if I power on the enclosure while it's plugged into my USB hub, it looks like Linux times out and decides to ignore the device.
If I just power it on and leave it for a bit, and then plug it in, it seems to work fine. I'm using a rather old 2.6.11.7 kernel. Will upgrading help? It seems like the problem is just that Linux gives up on the device much too early. Alternatively, is there some way to ask Linux to scan this device again?
