I despise the forum arrangement, so I'll guess here.

The problem is that the device is reporting itself as using an Application 
that the kernel thinks is a input device.  See:

The Linux USB HID driver has a test (#define'd, I think) that checks the 
Application for a matching entry.
It used to look something like:
#define IS_INPUT_APPLICATION(a) ((a >= 0x00010000) && (a <= 0x00010008))
