Yes, that would explain it.

Out of curiosity, what do you get if you do this:

        rmmod ehci-hcd
        rmmod ohci-hcd
        modprobe ohci-hcd

Does that just give the same sequence of repeating error messages?

Oh dear.  Too bad you didn't mention this before.

There are limitations on how long a USB cable can be.  You may be up 
against those limits.

The way around the limits is to use a hub.  One cable from the computer to 
the hub, one cable from the hub to the keyboard.  That way each cable is 
safely within the length limit and you're okay.
