Dear List Users, I've recently got a Apple iPod shuffle 1GB (read flash drive) which requires high power USB2.0. However I'm runing my old PIII (993 MHz), 256MB, Linux FC3 (Kernel 2.6.9) with USB1.1 (12Mb/s full speed).
When I plugin the iPod to any of the USB port I get an error message .... usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using address 3 usb 1-2: device not accepting address 3, error -71 .... However, if I let the iPod plugged in and then boot the machine while the iPod is still plugged in, it recognises the device through /dev/sda1 and I can do the usual stuff (e.g. formatting, data transfer etc. etc.). But once I plug it off (after ejecting /dev/sda1), the same thing happens! I also have an USB extension cord which works with other USB devices. However, when I connect the iPod through the cord, its green light flashes and same error message appears. What I want to know is that is it USB1.0 port and USB2.0 compatibility issue? I have empty PCI slot. Will a USB2.0 PCI card help. What is high power? How do I ensure that the card I shall get will be a high power? Why the device extnsion cord shows different behavior though the error messege is same? BTW, I can duel boot to windoz and the behavior is same. Recognizes while plugged in during booting, otherwise not. Please help. Any suggestion would be welcome so that my money (I'm a poor man to get a shuffle instead of a Nano) is not wasted!
