I submitted the patch: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/53293 >> >>---- >>[17180495.032000] usb-storage: Issuing auto-REQUEST_SENSE > > ... > >>[17180495.036000] usb-storage: -- Result from auto-sense is 0 >>[17180495.036000] usb-storage: -- code: 0xf0, key: 0x3, ASC: 0x11, ASCQ: 0x0 >>[17180495.036000] usb-storage: Medium Error: Unrecovered read error > > > That appears to be pretty clear. I looked further into it and found that the ipod includes a diagnostic tool. Sure enough, the test fails, there are some bad sectors in the drive. I guess I hadn't noticed when listening to music because the ipod fails gracefully and just skips to the next song when it encounters a bad sector, and I mostly use it as background music and don't pay that much attention. Anyway, thanks a lot for your help. It looks like all my usb-related problems are resolved. -- Ylan ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
