Hmmm. It's possible that the device really does want to see INQUIRY commands for both LUNs before any READ commands. It's not easy to get Linux to do this but it is possible. You'll have to move the sd_mod.ko driver from its normal location in /lib/modules/<kernel-version>/kernel/drivers/scsi/ to someplace else. Then when you plug in the device, the system will issue the INQUIRY commands and no others. At that point you can insmod sd_mod.ko by hand, and see what happens.
