Hello All, This problem has cropped up once or twice on the lists before but with no apparent resolution. The problem is basically this: sometime after booting -- could be as little as five minutes, could be as long as five hours or more -- my USB mouse becomes very sluggish and jerky. I get the impression that events for it are queuing up for some period (a second?) before being delivered. If I have USB keyboard connected as well then using that becomes "interesting" -- keypress events take a long time to get through, are sometimes ignored and sometimes doubled.
I've scoured the web and the kernel change-logs for any hint of what could be wrong but I've turned nothing up. Back in January, there was a similar thread which included this possible patch http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.usb.user/14559 -- (the VIA no-shutdown-on-babble-patch, not the one linked to) which I applied to a 2.6.18-rc7 kernel without much optimism. My lack of optimism stems from the fact that I've tried disabling the ehci-hcd driver to no effect, I still get the problem. The hardware I have I believe is identical, or nearly identical, to the same problem machine back in January. It's a Clevo D900K (actually badged as a Rock Extreme 64) normally with 2Gb memory in it. It presently has 1Gb as one of the modules has gone bad and that didn't make a scrap of difference to the problem. lspci shows this: 00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. I do have a card-reader in this machine and I've tried disabling it in the BIOS and it makes no difference.
