ok, now I am testing it on the 2.6.15 (Fedora Core 5).
I think I will try 2.6.18 tommorow.

yes, it is ok.
and... now I see that I can read from two devices simultaneously
without problems (ok, "still reset high speed USB device" from time to time,
but no I/O errors, no noticable delays).
only writing is problematic.
