On the contrary -- it _is_ a hardware problem.

Your pendrive contains an embedded hub (see the third line of your 
"directly on the pc" log).  Both it and the hub in your keyboard get their 
power from the USB bus.  But according to the USB specification, it is 
illegal to plug one bus-powered hub into another (see the error message in 
your first log).

If you can plug the pendrive into some external power source, that would 
solve the problem.  Likewise, if you used a powered hub instead of the one 
in your keyboard, that would also solve the problem.
