That is an extremely vague description of your problem.  How about some 
details?

        What happens when you try to run fdisk?

        What shows up in the dmesg log when you first plug in the
        drive and when you try to run fdisk?

        What shows up if you turn on CONFIG_USB_DEBUG and rebuild
        the USB drivers?
