The email thread you point to doesn't say much -- just that nobody knows 
what the underlying cause of the problem is.  In fact, it wasn't clear to 
me what the problem itself was, never mind the underlying cause.

If the problem is that you get random USB disconnects, then it could be 
caused by several things:

        Bad hardware in the DVB device;

        Bad hardware in the computer's USB controller;

        Bad USB connectors or cables.

To get more information, try building a kernel with CONFIG_USB_DEBUG 
turned on.
