It's probably a matter of not having sufficient bandwidth on the USB
bus.  The keyboard uses some bandwidth and there's not enough left to
use the speaker.  But if you connect the speaker first then it gets all
the bandwidth it needs, and when the music is finished then the
keyboard can use what it wants.

Bandwidth utilization is improved in later kernels.  Try upgrading to
2.6.21.
